The cultivar name " Zwartkop " means " black head " in Dutch . This cultivar is also known by the German name " Schwarzkopf , " which has the same signification .

Aeonium arboreum’Zwartkop ' is a cultivar ofAeonium arboreum . The precise origin of this cultivar is nameless , but it was discovered in a glasshouse in Leiden , Netherlands . The plant was named and trace by B. K. Boom   in the Dutch journal Succulenta in 1959 .
