Arisaema costatum. Favourite Plant in the garden this week
I recall I might be a 24-hour interval late , but I am join in with the favourite plant of the workweek meme atDanger Gardenas it seems appropriate with such a threatening looking plant as this weirdArisaemawhich is experience as The Striped Cobra Lily . It looks pretty severe to me with its long whip like tail . It has a lovely loot , empurpled and white hood with a foresighted outgrowth to the spadix . The actual flowers are midget and shroud at the base of the spadix . Arisaeamas are not precisely beautiful but they are weirdly fascinating . They are also peculiar in the way of life that they shift sex as they grow . The first inflorescence will have male flowers . In subsequent years it will have female flowers . Once successfully pollenate the seed product will exhaust the plant and it will go back to being male . I recollect the Scripture for this is monoicous . Correct me if I am wrong , I only learnt the word a few weeks ago .
The attractive , trifoliate or three lobed leaves are quite large .
genus Arisaema like woodland status and this one is audacious as long as you protect it in winter with a heavyset mulch . It is a near idea to cross out where you have found them because they disappear alone when they have finished flower . I always worry that I have lost them but when they appear they grow very quickly . I have planted thisArisaemaunder my lovely Forest PansyCercis canadensisas the beautiful purple colour of the spathe matches the colour of the leaves . I am not certain that this really is my favourite plant this hebdomad , how could it be when the rosebush are in bloom ? But it certainly is the eldritch . Perhaps there should be a weirdest plant life of the week meme . If you go over to toLoreeat Danger Garden you could find an even eldritch flora . Her cap Sedum : Sedum ochroleucumis very rummy .

Your Arisaema would be worth originate for the leaf alone , Chloris . The heyday is certainly weird but strangely hold back – it ’s a complete selection for a favorite this week . It ’s sexual urge modification potentiality adds to the fascination . I be given to boast the plants that peculiarly draw my tending , as opposed to the garden workhorses I favor to fill more spectacular roles in the garden .
