This first one is from Tascha Raymond , who gardens in Central Illinois and has a very beautifulvegetable garden : Each year I tell myself that this class I will do a better job ofpruning my tomato . Last year was no exception , but once again when the time came to ‘ cut cut cut ’ I did n’t have the confidence to really do it — so one flora of yellow pear - shapedcherry tomatoesgrew up one side of an 8 - invertebrate foot arch and down the other ! Here is a photo . In the foreground you could see mykale , marigold border , a variegatedbasil , and a determinatetomato plantthat I did prune .
Next up is Johanna from Aiken , South Carolina : The island in front of my house looks amazing , and it ’s the first meter I ’ve been able to appropriate the fictive cypress(Chamaecyparispisifera , Zones 4–8 ) and ‘ Black Diamond ’ crape myrtle(Lagerstroemia‘Black Diamond ’ , Zones 7–10 ) together in their early point . The ‘ Black Diamond ’ will eventually have black leaves with darkred flowers .

Daylilies can develop in partial - sunshine conditions , as evidence byHemerocallis‘Grey Witch ’ ( zone 3–8 ) , which shares a home withHydrangea macrophylla‘Cityline Rio ’ ( zone 5–9 ) and other shade - loving shrub and perennial .
Much of my garden is in fond to full specter . This layer is fix under a towering disconsolate spruce that I found after using it as a living Christmas tree many years ago . There are also easterly red cedars(Juniperusvirginiana , Zones 2–9 ) and an old ‘ Liberty’apple tree(Malus‘Liberty ’ , Zones 5–8 ) overhead . NumerousHostacultivars ( Zones 3–8 ) , Japanese painted ferns(Athyriumniponicum‘Pictum ’ , Zones 4–9),Carex‘Ice Cream ’ ( Zones 5–9),Pulmonaria‘Opal ’ ( Zones 4–8 ) , and pink - floweredCalaminthagrandiflora(Zones 5–9 ) delineate the shadowy gardenpathway . The creamy snowy blossom in front of the obelisk isAruncusdioicus(Zones 4–8 ) , or goatsbeard as it ’s unremarkably called . The very large farewell are from aRodgersia(Zones 4–8 ) . In the background , Heliopsishelianthoidesvar.scabra‘Summer Sun ’ ( Zones 3–9 ) bathes in a temporary hookup of sunlight .
