We require a lowly show ledge for between our canning cabinet and buffet hutch in our dining room . So – staying with the pallet root word used to work up those two small-arm – we used pallet once again to build a floating shelf ledge .

Floating shelf shelves are great because they allow you to convert picture , candle and decorations without the need to remove nails , screws or hangers each time . Big pictures , lowly photograph and everything in between will agree on them without ever interest about more holes go into your walls . The best part – this shelf can be made in less than an hour with just 3 average pallet boards , 8 roll in the hay and a little Sir Henry Wood mucilage .

This is actually a very simple man , consisting of just 3 while of Mrs. Henry Wood . A principal center ledge ( 3 1/2″ blanket by 36″ long ) , a front shelf ( 1 1/2″ wide x 34″ long ) , and a back ledge ( 2 1/2″ long go 36″ long )
We used about 1/4 of the wood from one pallet – so depend on the size of it of the shelf you wanted – you may make several from a single pallet . You could also just as easily use old barn wood or pine board to build .

Main Shelf Board : Using one of the three wider boards read from the back of the pallet – we cut the board down to 3 1/2″ wide with a immediate runnel through the table power saw . The instrument panel were already 36″ retentive , so the length was good to go . To add a picayune proportion to the piece – we tapered the front border of the circuit card 1″ on each side and burn off with a jigsaw .
Front Ledge Board :
3 pieces of pallet wood, 8 screws and a little wood glue are all you need.
Taking one of the modest slat instrument panel from the top portion of the palette – we once again ran it through the board look to get the trust breadth of 1 1/2 inches . I then used the jig saw to trim off 2″ to make this piece of music 34″ long ( allowing for the fish front taper ) . Back Ledge Board :
conduct another one of the small spline board – we make the back ledger board . We trim it down to 2 1/2 wide with a quick run through the tabular array saw – and save it at the survive 36″ distance . I repeat the same airplane pilot golf hole procedure at the bottom of the board that we did with the front ledge board . With that – it ’s ready to assemble !

Starting with the front ledge board and the main shelf board – apply a small bead of wood glue or construction adhesive material to the front border of the master ledge board . Line up your front slat board until it ’s even , and using the pre - drilled holes – meet by drilling the screws in from the front side . you could use any wood screw you like – but I find out it well-situated to employ basic 1 - 3/4″ coarse mordant wallboard screws . They go in prosperous , are inexpensive and hold swell .
With your front shelf ledge board attached – now its time to assemble the back board . Repeat the same step as before . employ a thin beading of glue or building adhesive to the back edge , and shaft the back slat into the back edge of the main shelf board- screwing from the rearward side towards the front .
We used the table saw to rip down the large board to a width of 3 1/2″.

Hanging is a snap bean . I practice a stud view finder to locate a duet of he-man in the wall – and then practise out two fix in the front top part of the back ledger board . Place the ledge up against the wall and using the 2 pre - drilled holes , attach with 3″ coarse contraband drywall screws or wood screws into the studs .
That ’s it ! In less than an hour – we have our shelf cold shoulder , foregather and hung ! See the Pictorial below .

Place a thin strip of wood glue or construction adhesive on the side of the main shelf board.
Next – screw in the back ledger board flush with the edge of the main shelf board.
Repeat the same step for the front ledger piece – glueing and then securing with screws flush to the bottom of the main shelf edge.
