The stellar plants and garden scenes that stole the show in Sue’s 2024 garden
Hi GPODers and Happy New Year !
My garden is located at just over 800 feet in altitude in North Canton , CT ( zone 6a ) . picture of the garden have been featured on GPOD a few prison term , most of late in February . Every garden season I take hundreds of photograph , many are post on my Instagram account@musabasjoosue . For this submission , I select a extract of photos from 2024 that cross the season and jumped out at me as exceeding . The image resolutions are high so I will have to charge the pictures in three email .
Like all geezerhood , garden season 2024 offer a unique set of challenges . In 2023 we received an obscene amount of rain giving most plant a wooden leg up descend into 2024 . Somehow I missed the shift and did n’t comment how parch the garden was father until late summer and had to start a sprinkler rotary motion . Time will tell whether my efforts were too fiddling , too late . No matter what , I ’ll be back at it in 2025 as a freshly retired nurseryman . I ’m already daydream about what I can do with all that extra meter !

I sleep with this happy early May combo of Slawa Triumph tulip(Tulipa‘Slawa ’ , Zones 3–8)andGolden Nipponese woods grass(Hakonechloa macra‘Aureola ’ , Zones 5–9 ) .
In order forSiberian iristo take in a spot here , they have to have unequalled bloom . Charming Billy(Iris sibirica‘Charming Billy ’ , Zones 3–9)fits the bank note .
Unlike my premature garden , subtlety is in short provision . Most of my ( few ) hostas turn in the north facing beds in front of the house . boast here is Guardian Angel(Hostax ‘ Guardian Angel ’ , Zones 3–9).Love the blue patterned foliation !

Discovered Treasure bearded iris(Iris germanica ‘ Discovered Treasure ’ , Zones 3–9)was a bonus plant fromShreiner ’s . What a beauty !
For many old age , I lament my inability to getdigitalisto reseed . Then they break loose . In the bound I turn over up the seedlings and move them around the garden . If the seeding becomes too much , I yank and compost the extras . I rely on them for repeat , to cockle the garden together .
After many geezerhood of pooh poohing day lily , I now grow close to 100 different cultivar … hahaha … never say never . I focalize on subsequently blooming varieties and use them in sketch with other non - daylily plants . celestial Angel Ice(Hemerocallis‘Heavenly Angel Ice ’ , Zones 2–8)has been a slap-up associate for Pinky Pollen Ringsmooth hydrangea(Hydrangea arborescens ‘ Pinky Pollen Ring ’ , Zones 3–8 ) .

Oh Conca d’Or lily(Lilium‘Conca d’Or ’ , Zones 4–8),I had to dash to get these photo as the heyday only live a few daylight in the July heating system moving ridge . just luck next year .
Mighty Chestnut daylily(Hemerocallis‘Mighty Chestnut ’ , Zones 3–9)amid the copiousness of mid July .
If you are looking for a relatively compactpanicle hydrangea , I extremely advocate Fire Light Tidbit ® (Hydrangea paniculata‘SMNHPK ’ , Zones 3–8).Deer “ trimmed ” the Jeana phlox(Phlox paniculata‘Jeana ’ , zona 4–8)earlier in the season which helped keep it more compact .

Mid September in the back garden under a large oak tree . The drouth took a toll on some of the plant residents that grow here , but not all . ‘ Gibraltar ’ bush clover(Lespedeza thunbergii‘Gibraltar ’ , Zones 4–8)is a mythological late season works but human does it get bad ! That variegated Summer Carnival hibiscus(Hibiscus‘Summer Carnival ’ , Zones 4–9)adds a contrasting pop of sheer foliage . The weed is Little Zebra miscanthus(Miscanthussinensis‘Little Zebra ’ , Zones 5–9).Coral Crème Drop phlox(Phlox paniculata‘Ditomdre ’ , Zones 3–9)rounds out the sketch .
A late September look from the back lawn into my patio garden . The Tetrapanax in the top right has been perfectly hardy here . I love bluff , tropic leafage and this equip the banknote . In the foreground , Summer Ice daphne(Daphnex transatlantica ‘ Summer Ice ’ , Zones 5–9)blooms almost all class . Other industrial plant are Laced Up elderberry(Sambucusnigra‘SNR1292 ’ , Zones 4–7)(left ) , and Nipponese lineage grass(Imperatacylindrica‘Rubra ’ , Zones 5–9)which is on the face of it invasive in some mood but hardly survives here .
October frosts mark the end of container season . of late vote out frosts seem to arrive after and later draw out some of my container plants into November .

Julia Child ™ rose(Rosa‘WEKvossutono ’ , Zones 5–10)is only one of two roses I grow . I took this picture November 26th just before the first toilsome freeze . Now the garden sleep and permit sentence to dream and plan for next year .
