The LSU AgCenter has named FlameThrower coleus as a Louisiana Super Plant for bounce 2020 .

“ FlameThrower coleus series can be recognise by its unambiguously - shaped slender and rippled foliage , which stands out in any landscape painting , ” said AgCenter horticulturist   Jeb Fields , who oversees the Super Plants programme .

“ lend that to bold long - live on color , and you have one of the blistering plant life this summertime , ” he say . “ These compact flame nettle are great for any Louisiana landscape . ”

Like most flame nettle , FlameThrower is a downhearted - sustainment landscape painting works . It expand in full sun but can handle some idle shade and does best in well - drained soil .

But this serial is spare special because it is one of the last to blossom in the landscape painting , Fields state . “ This is important because unlike most flora , coleus is develop for its leaf , and prime traditionally are n’t wanted , ” he said .

FlameThrower coleus is presently useable in seven spicy variety , including Salsa Roja , Serrano , Habanero , Chili Pepper , Chipotle , Spiced Curry and Salsa Verde . More variety are being evaluated , and the developers continue to tot to the serial .

FlameThrower flame nettle should be planted approximately 18 inches apart in the landscape painting , but they also make marvellous additions to large planters and containers , Fields said .

The Louisiana Super Plants program is an educational campaign of the LSU AgCenter that identifies superior plant cloth for Louisiana landscapes , Fields allege . These plants have undergone tight trial at multiple AgCenter locations across the state as well as being vet and approve by the Louisiana horticulture and landscape manufacture .

In word with many sweeping and retail growers , it is evident that consumers run to take Louisiana Super Plants and specially gravitate towards the newer inclusions . “ In fact , we have been informed by some retail nursery that they ca n’t keep new Louisiana Super Plants in stock , ” Fields read .
