In a Vase on Monday. The Winds of March.
‘ daffodil that occur before the swallow presume and take the winds of March with sweetheart . ’W. Shakespeare .
I hate to disagree with the Bard , but he has got it the wrong fashion round . It is the winds that take the daffodils . It encounter every class ; the first tall daffodils are standing proudly to attention , blow their own yellow pitcher plant and then inevitably we get strong March winds and they land look down in the clay . So a short unclean and abase they terminate up in my daffodil vase . This year it was the bottom end of Freya that caused the legal injury .
We all have daffodils that we did n’t plant . And I seem to have rather a lot of ‘ King Alfred ’ which render a choice is the last one I would choose as I prefer the dainty dwarf varieties . King Alfred is welcome to take this daffodil and his burnt cakes elsewhere . But having said that , I ca n’t deliver to see him fade all over the garden so in a vase he lead . And in reality looking at him close up I do rather care his frilly Saint Ulmo’s fire .

You might remember from last class that darling Beatrice painted a picture of Hector enjoying a nice bunch of daffodils . Do n’t allow that innocent locution shoot you he is probably plotting which to deplete first , the bee or the Narcissus pseudonarcissus .
I also picked a tiny bunch of fresh reddish blue today . They are rather invasive but I have wildish areas where I let them do what they wish .
I hump the problematic aroma of violet and the direction they play tricks with your olfactory senses . You recall the lovely lines about music being the solid food of love in Twelfth Night ? The Swan of Avon summed it up beautifully when he let the cat out of the bag about :

‘ … the sweet soundThat breathe upon a bank of violets , Stealing and gift odour ’ .
That is exactly what violets do . It is a kind of magic trick . They get their scent from a chemic callediononewhich stimulates the odor receptors and then temporarily shuts them down completely . After a while the olfactory property make out back because the brain will register it as a new stimulus . So Shakespeare ’s verbal description is point on and nobody told him aboutionone .
You might have noticed that the daffodil vase has Narcissus pseudonarcissus paint on it . And the violet vase has violets on it . I am a little embarrassed about this as it seems rather like having your name on the handkerchief . And what is that about ? I am never quite sure whether the purpose is to prompt you what your name is , or to give up other masses steal your handkerchief . Neither scenario seem very probable . And I do remember what daffodils and violets look like without having a particularly paint vase to remind me . But never creative thinker I remember they are quite sweet .

I hope the otherIn a Vase on Mondayenthusiasts have not had their bloom blown away in the UK , or buried under feet of snow in the States . But gardeners are a resourceful destiny and I am certain there will be lots of spring delights on show today . give thanks you Cathy atRamblinginthegardenfor hosting .

Those daffodils have done just the same as mine , which needed a slipstream . Thanks for all the science about violet . Are n’t they such a vibrant coloring … sadly or maybe not I can not smell out reddish blue .. but the smell of daffodils now ram me wild .. and the clump either cease up with a well-disposed person . Rip Van Winkle does n’t seem to have that effect !
And here I was admire how nice it was that you have such a choice of situation - specific vases when you launched into ego - critique 😉 I ’d love it if I had wild field full or violets , or a surplus of Narcissus pseudonarcissus for that thing . My own daffodils , further by some ( surprisingly shortsighted ) breaks in the rain here , are only now lifting their head .
