SixOnSaturday

Contrary to my prevision I did actually get some horticulture done on Sunday despite my exertions on the North Downs Way the former day . I cut down and butt against the lawn , hoed some weed , tied a few thing in . Light duties to be sure , but stuff was done . This weekend I will have some time for gardening . I have rose to deadhead , tulip to move off the terrace , pots to piddle , irrigation to re - commission , knautia to plant ( still ) and of course the dreaded bindweed to keep at bay .

sentence for Six on Saturday then . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything , you make up one’s mind !

Here are my Six for this week … .

1 – Rose ‘ Paul Noble ’ .   A rambler , this was planted last autumn . It grew a fleck over the winter , but this springiness it has give way bananas , and is now bloom at about 10′ on the front bulwark of the business firm .   I have it chase after along the fencing too . At the charge per unit it is produce , it will be up to the roof and across the front of the business firm in no time . fantastical .

2 – genus Allium ‘ Christophii ’ .   A authentic returner , it also seeds all over the berth , so eventually the garden will just be Allium .   I loosely dig the seedling up or hoe them off so I do n’t get taken over .

3 – New toy .   I was sent this to seek out , a rare freebie that I will now shamelessly plug .   I ’ve wanted a hori hori for a while , but despite steady show on my wish list , one has never appeared enwrap beneath the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree on the great day .   This one is append by a newfangled British family business calledJapeto . They narrow down in garden tools from or “ inspired by ” Nipponese gardening . I surmise “ inspired by ” in this case mean “ made in China ” , but it ’s a solid scrap of outfit , a good weight .   A trowel tongue , it is a trowel , wait for it , shaped like a with child knife . It has a serrated edge for cutting ascendent or whatever , and a handy deepness measure on the other side for ( I imagine ) gauging deepness of bulb planting .   It fare with a nice leather bundle which can be sequester to a belt for the full Davy Crocket expression .   The steel of the vane goes all the way to the goal of the hold so it should stand up to a serious bit of prod . I am yet to try it out , I will describe back .

4 – Physocarpus opulifolius .   I normally prune these hard back to the torso in early natural spring , part to keep it dress , but also for sound leaf coverage and colour .   I forgot to do it this year , but have been rewarded by endearing flush , something I do n’t normally see . The bees are happy , and so am I.

5 – Clematis rectum purpurea . You might recall me allege how much this was growing compared to previous long time when it first part to emerge from below ground . It has continue to develop well . I consider it needs a taller accompaniment as it is start to flop a little .   It is bloom now too , at about 4′ high , maybe 5′.

6 – Clematis ‘ Nelly Moser ’ . This is in a planter in the front garden , along with a rose ( which sense divine , coming soon to SoS ) . Nelly often gets rust by earwig , but she has some more or less whole flowers at the moment .

Have a super weekend in the garden !

I ’ll be back next time with another # SixOnSaturday .
